Green award

We are proud to announce that Dr Martin Birley was awarded "S W London Green Champion 2008". See Awards.

NICE

June 2009: Dr Martin Birley joined the UK Public Health Programme Development Group for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidance on Spatial Planning.

WHO

June 2009: Dr Martin Birley participated in a World Health Organisation workshop on Health and SEA in Rome - now ublished.

RTPI

The Royal Town Planning Institute have published guidance entitled Delivering Healthy Communities. We were joint authors.

IFC standards

During 2006, the International Finance Corporation finalized its new Standards. Most of the major lending banks agreed to follow these Standards by signing the Equator Principles. Consequently, HIA became compulsory for most major private sector projects that have a borrowing requirement. The Standards also represent best international practice.

Guidelines on the Community Health chapter have been published and BirleyHIA assisted with the review during 2008.

Similar Standards were adopted by the EBRD during 2008 and we assisted WHO to provide HIA training for EBRD staff.

Mehrdad Nazari (MSc, MBA, LEAD Fellow) has 17 years of experience in environmental and social due diligence and risk assessments, including 10 years at the European Bank, where he was involved in a $2+ billion extractive investment portfolio co-financed with IFC, major Export Credit Agencies and Equator Banks. Mehrdad previous appointments included Project Manager with Dames & Moore (now URS) and Director of CSR Research at CoreRatings (now Innovest and DNV).
