IFC standardsDuring 2006, the International Finance Corporation finalized its new Standards. Most of the major lending banks agreed to follow these Standards by signing the Equator Principles. Consequently, HIA became compulsory for most major private sector projects that have a borrowing requirement. The Standards also represent best international practice. Guidelines on the Community Health chapter have been published and BirleyHIA assisted with the review during 2008. Similar Standards were adopted by the EBRD during 2008 and we assisted WHO to provide HIA training for EBRD staff.
