What is HIA?

The method

The methodological components of health impact assessment are based on understanding:

bulletthe determinants of population health
bulletthe scope of the assessment
bulletthe phases of the change
bulletthe distribution of effects
bulletthe health outcomes. 

Health impact assessments usually include a baseline study or survey. A common error is to spend too many resources collecting too much data about too many things.

HIAs of what?

HIAs may be undertaken of policies as well as projects. The tool may be used by both the public and private sector and in both developed and developing economies.
